Keeping men safe

Its Important to Remember the Ground Rules

Confidentiality

Respect

No interruptions

What is Confidentiality?

Confidentiality is one of the foundations of trust in a men’s group. What’s shared in the room stays in the room. That means not repeating personal stories or struggles outside the group, even casually. The exception is when someone may be at serious risk of harm to themselves or others. In those situations, safety comes first and outside support may need to be involved. Being clear about this from the start helps people feel safe enough to speak honestly while understanding that protecting life will always come before privacy.

If Someone is Struggling

Listen. Acknowledge. Signpost. Have crisis numbers available. You are a bridge, not a therapist.

If Someone Dominates

Thank them for sharing. Then gently invite others in: “Let’s hear from someone who hasn’t spoken yet.” Protect the group without embarrassing the person.
